Babino polje, isola di Mljet

In the mystical oasis of the Adriatic lies island Mljet and on the island the village Babino Polje. The glorious history of Dubrovnik has left its mark on Mljet and on Babino polje in particular. When visiting Mljet, be sure to walk through the history of Babino polje, which is preserved by numerous churches: St. Andrew, St. Michael, St. John, St. Savior, St. George, St. Blaise, Our Lady of Mercy, St. Paul and St. Joseph. Odysseus' cave, located in the village’s vicinity, connects Mljet to the legend of Odysseus. It says that Poseidon's winds sent Odysseus to Mljet where he was captured by nymph Calypso in a cave and where he forgot his Ithaca in her presence. The cave has two entrances, one from the sea that is accessible by swimming or a small boat, and the other one on the north side to which a steep path leads. Even today, fishermen from Babino polje use this picturesque cave to hide their boats from strong gusts or storm. Be sure to visit this magical island and discover all its secrets.
