Isola di Goli Otok, Isola di Rab

Goli otok is another small island situated between the islands Rab, Sveti Grgur and Prvić. Its north-eastern coast is steep and inaccessible, while the southwest side of the island is somewhat more gentle and suitable for swimming. The island is uninhabited and mostly covered with rocky slopes with low grass. Since ancient times, the locals of nearby Lopar from the island of Rab used it as grazing land for sheep. During the communist regime, Goli Otok was a penitentiary for political prisoners, who ended up there mostly without any trial whatsoever. It was closed in 1988 and today only the ruins bear witness to the difficult times of the former communist regime.
