Tulove grede

Anyone who ever came to Zadar or left Zadar had to notice the bare boulders that proudly rise like petrified giants above the tunnel "Sveti Rok". This series of pillars, round towers, ridges, cracks and ravines that protrude from the rocky karst stretches for a length of one kilometer in the Velebit Nature Park. This miraculous karst phenomenon has awed and sparkled the imagination of people for centuries. According to one legend, dragons laid their eggs exactly here, according to another, invisible fairies of the Velebit mountain lived in the cracks of Tulove grede. A third legend says that the Black Queen, who brings misfortune, lived there and that the nearby mountain pass was named the Queen's Gate based on this legend. At the southern foot of the ridge is a grassy plateau called Dolac pod Tulom. Tulove grede can be reached along well-maintained hiking trails under expert guidance, or by car from the settlement Sv. Rok through the pass called Prag. In Podprag, at the foot of Tulove grede, there is the picturesque Church of St. Francis, built by Austrian Emperor Francis I in 1832.
