Kornati Archipel

Kornati archipelago is located offshore between Zadar and Šibenik. It is the most indented island group in the Mediterranean. About 140 spread out, uninhabited islands, islets, and reefs cover an area of barely 70 square kilometres. This region of sparse vegetation however is endowed with tasty olive groves and sweet figs. In the past there was a small population that mainly kept sheep, and their main source of food was infact olives and figs. Whether you take the journey to Kornati pushed by strong winds, or you are in the bosom of some old fishing vessel, with the company of seagulls, you will enjoy watching the interesting shapes of the islets. If you like the sea depths, you must bring diving equipment as the flora and fauna in this part of the Adriatic is extremely beautiful and rich.

Those who prefer walking, can disembark on some of the islets and fulfil their adventurous spirit. Although the summer heat is intolerable and mountaineering is not the most desired sport, when you have once conquered one of the islets' summits, you won't be sorry about the effort it took. In front of you will open up a view on the islets which look like turtles' shells rising above the sea's surface. In the wilderness of the nearby Kornati National Park, is found one more protected pearl – the Telašćica Nature Park.
