Island Biševo, geopark Vis archipelago

Southwest of island Vis is the small and magical Adriatic island Biševo. Only a handful of residents live permanently on it and nurture the traditional way of life that used to be common on most Dalmatian islands in the past. They enjoy cultivating their vineyards and olive groves, and rejoice over every good catch of fresh fish. In past times, the most populated place was Polje, located in the middle of the island, but nowadays life has moved to the beautiful sandy bays of Porat and Salbunora, and Mezuporat with its beautiful pebble beach. The island of Biševo is a must-see destination for many tourists, not only in Komiža, but also from the islands of Brač, Hvar and Split. Namely, it is unthinkable to be in this part of the Adriatic and not visit the Blue Cave. The magical play of sea, sun and stone make it a natural phenomenon as it turns the cave’s interior into a turquoise blue color and a unique experience you should not miss. With a little luck, you will also discover the Monk Seal Cave, where the Mediterranean monk seal once lived.

Due to its exceptional beauty and educational importance, the Vis archipelago, along with the Blue Cave, the Monk Seal Cave and the Green Cave on island Ravnik, was declared a protected UNESCO Geopark, i.e. a park of exceptional geological and scientific importance.
