Šibenik Riviera

Šibenik and surroundings

The town of Šibenik has probably the most beautiful possible location of all the towns on the Adriatic. It is found in a deep, wide bay which is connected to the open sea with a channel, and protected from the open sea by a large number of islets. At the mouth of the channel is found the fortress of Saint Nicholas from the 16th century which guards the sea entrance to the town. Directly next to the town, the river Krka, through the Prokljansko lake, flows into the sea. One of the most beautiful pictures which is offered on the town is from the legendary Šibenik bridge which crosses the mouth of the river Krka on the Adriatic highway and under which pass numerous yachts on their way to the small place Skradin, located on the banks of the Krka, from where tourist boats for expeditions leave to the national park.

Tourism in Šibenik is mainly run from tourist settlements in its surroundings, such as the hotel complex Solaris or the places Jadrija, Zablaće, Brodarica, Jadrtovac and Žaborići or on the small islands of the Šibenik archipelago such as Kaprije, Žirje, Obonjan and Zlarin. On the latter there is a tradition of extracting and treating coral. Of course divers here will come into their own, given that this region has extremely beautiful and rich marine life. Behind Šibenik, besides the unavoidable Krka waterfalls visit the Etnoland Dalmati theme park in Pakovo Selo, with its well-kept authentic Dalmatian farm, where apart from traditional crafts you can see folklore performances and visit the interesting Falconry centre in the village of Dubrava.
