Rogoznica, Dalmatia

Where northern and central Dalmatia meet is the welcoming Mediterranean town of Rogoznica. Its charm of a typical Dalmatian village, Rogoznica owes to its center that is located on a peninsula and to the traditional old stone houses, narrow alleys and streets with the beautiful stone waterfront promenade. Rogoznica is truly a small tourist paradise due to its white pebble beaches and turquoise blue sea and the comfortable and affordable accommodation in apartments, holiday homes and villas that is ideal for family vacations.

Rogoznica is also highly popular among boaters and considered to be one of the safest Adriatic ports. Marina Frapa is a modern and well-equipped marina and belongs to the most beautiful ones on the Adriatic. Not far from Rogoznica is Cape Planka that is a place where the south wind and the strong north wind bora collide with sea currents and strong cyclones and where the biggest waves in the Adriatic Sea break dramatically. Rogoznica and its riviera is famous for its beautiful bays and beaches, such as Šepurina, Kanica, Zatoglav, Lozica and many others.

The area around Rogoznica was endowed with miraculous nature and numerous beauties, among which Lake Zmajevo oko (Dragon’s Eye) on the peninsula Gradina is particularly attractive. It is a salt water lake that is cut deep into the rocks and connected to the sea by a cave whose opening can be seen on the water surface. The cave is called Zmajevo uho (Dragon's Ear) and is larger and deeper than the lake itself. The lake is associated with the legend of the dragon Murin, who demanded that the locals bring him the most beautiful girl every year to be his bride. Unfortunately, no woman survived her first wedding night, but until one day the hero Aristoles appeared on the winged horse Pegasus. He fell in love with a girl who was to be the bride to the horrible dragon the next day. The young hero challenged the dragon to a duel, deadly wounding the beast with a spear. While dying, the dragon dug out his eyes out with his claws. One of his eye slipped and fell to the ground, where it melted the rock that filled the pit with sea water, and thus creating the legend of the Dragon’s Eye Lake. The legend further goes that if two lovers bathe in the Dragon's Eye Lake, they will be faithful to each other for the rest of their lives and their marriage will be blessed with eternal love and healthy children. Therefore, if you are in love and you wish to stay in love for the rest of your life, there is no better way than visit Rogoznica, enjoy a romantic vacation and bathe in the Dragon's Eye.

Hardly anyone can resist the magical places of the Rogoznica Riviera, where, in the heart of Dalmatia, you can find virgin nature, small towns and bays with white beaches and crystal clear sea. This part of the Adriatic coast is lined with picturesque seaside resorts such as Dvornica, Ražanj, Zatoglav, Stupin Čeline, Rogoznica, Uvala Lozica, Zečevo Rogozničko, Stivašnica, Kanica, Oštrićka Luka and Kalebova Luka, where friendly hosts offer accommodation in many modern apartments, holiday homes and villas with pools. Due to the excellent road connections, most nearby major tourist centers, such as Trogir, Split, Šibenik, Biograd na Moru, Primošten and Zadar, as well as the fairytale landscapes of the Krka National Park and the Kornati National Park, can easily be reached from all places along the riviera.
