Biograd Riviera

Biograd Riviera

Biograd na Moru occupies the space from the Bošana bay in the north to the Solina bay in the south. Today it has become the centre of a riviera which includes the surrounding coastal spots – Sveti Filip i Jakov, Sv. Petar, Turanj and others. Biograd is not only touristic, but also the transport centre of the riviera, given that here is found the ferry stop for the island of Pašman and a modern marina. In Biograd there are a few hotel complexes, auto-camps, and there is a well developed range of private accommodation on offer. Biograd can be thankful for an interesting cultural-historical heritage, however the thing that is most attractive, is certainly its beautiful beaches and picturesque bays. Wander along the beautifully maintained, paved footpaths to the already mentioned Solina bay where a wide sandy beach is found with a pine forest. Here are large number of cafes, snack-bars and well-kept children's playgrounds.

The picturesque Pašman channel with its charming islets protects Biograd and its riviera from the strong gusts of wind from the sea, because of which this region is excellent for swimming and yachtsmen love it. It is especially attractive because it is located on the most indented part of Croatia's Adriatic coast, and in its surroundings can be found 3 national parks: Kornati, Paklenica and Krka, and the nature park Telašćica. During the summer in the town there are a large number of celebrations that happen in the open as well as sports tournaments and competitions.

In the immediate vicinity of Biograd is found a few smaller picturesque places which are suitable for a somewhat quieter holiday. Sveti Filip i Jakov, a small tourist hamlet with a picturesque old centre which evolved during the 16th and 17th centuries, holds a few valuable buildings such as the churches of Saint Mihovil from the 18th century, the Borelli park, a horticultural monument. In the former village of Rogovo, on the hill above Filip Jakov is found the excellently preserved early Romanesque church of Saint Rok from the 11th century, and the remains of the Dvorina castle. Visit Filip Jakov in August when the traditional Filipljansko summer festival is held, when the town comes alive with a large number of cultural-entertainment performances, while on the 16th of August Saint Rok is celebrated and honoured.

In the extension of Filip Jakov in the direction of Zadar, there are a few tourist settlements such as Sveti Petar and Turanj which are mainly orientated towards peaceful family tourism. Some 3 kilometres south of Biograd, is found Crvena Luka, a tourist complex with a beautiful sandy bay which is surrounded by a pine forest.
