Island Rab

The beautiful island of Rab in the Kvarner Bay is another mesmerizing jewel in the northern part of the Adriatic. Its coast is particularly interesting as it shows a variety of landscapes. Namely, the side facing the mountain range Velebit is rocky and bare, while the opposite side of the island towards the west is covered with lush greenery of holm oaks. The island’s interior is adorned with centuries-old olive groves and vineyards. Even the ancient Romans appreciated the timeless natural beauties of Rab, calling it Felix Arba or "Happy Rab”. After conquering it, they founded a settlement in the location of the present-day town Rab.
The later history of Rab was marked by Croatian dukes and from 1409 by the Venetians.

In the centre of the island lies town Rab with its distinctive four bell towers and medieval walls that descend steeply into the sea. The town owes its unique charm to the remains of the Church of St. John, a Benedictine monastery, aristocratic palaces and the magnificent park Komrčar, where you can see maritime and black pines, cypresses, ash trees, holm oaks, spruce trees, evergreen shrubs, agaves and Indian fig trees. Besides the town of Rab, there are 7 other settlements on the island: Lopar, Mundanije, Supetarska Draga, Kampor, Banjol, Palit and Barbat. In the bay of Kampor, located at the end of the long bay of Kamporska Draga, you will find the Franciscan monastery of St. Euphemia with the Romanesque church and Gothic chapel. The neighbouring bay in Supetarska Draga features the 19th-century abbey of St. Peter that is considered the best preserved Benedictine monument in all of Dalmatia.

Apart from its rich cultural and historical heritage, Rab is widely known for its beautiful beaches that offer a variety of facilities. Enjoy a refreshing drink and relax in one of the many bars or take a walk along one of the promenades there. Rab’s most famous pebble beaches are in Barbat and Banjol, while lovers of sandy beaches will particularly enjoy the beautiful beaches in Kampor and Lopar. The most famous sand beach is certainly Paradise Beach, which is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Adriatic. In addition to the many superb beaches, nature has endowed this island also with lush forests. The Kalifront peninsula is especially charming as it is covered with forests, where you can enjoy relaxing hikes along numerous trails and discover many hidden coves. We highly recommend to walk along the Premužić trail that passes through the peninsula and leads to the settlements of Lopar and Fruge. In addition to the many bird species that inhabit this magical island, you will also be able to encounter endemic plants along the way that grow only in the Kvarner area.
We invite you to visit the island of Rab and discover its wonderful nature, the exotic sandy beaches on the Lopar peninsula, the lush forest of the Kalifront peninsula and the fertile vineyards and centuries-old olive groves. Enjoy the romantic beauty of the island’s towns and villages and the hospitality of the local hosts who will open-heartedly welcome you and accommodate you in their comfortable and quality apartments, holiday homes and modern villas. Choose your ideal accommodation and your vacation can begin now.
