The town of Rab, Island Rab

Located in the centre of the island is the charming and historical town Rab, whose surrounding town walls and the harmoniously arranged rows of stone houses and aristocratic palaces within them form the well-known picture postcard scenery of the town. Rab’s famous landmarks are its four bell towers: the bell tower of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the bell tower of the Church of St. John the Evangelist, the bell tower of the Church of St. Andrew and the bell tower of the Church of St. Justine. At the entrance to the old town is the square of St. Christopher with a fountain. If you continue through the lovely alleys of Rab further away from the square, you will find yourself in the green fairy-tale setting of Komrčar Park, where the cooler air and irresistible forest scents are particularly delightful during hot summer days. Narrow paths in the shade of oaks, cypresses and pines will lead you to the magical beaches of Rab that prove to be idyllic and joyful spots for enjoyment and refreshing baths in the crystal clear sea. A walk along the promenade that connects town Rab with the neighbouring villages Barbat, Banjol and Kampor is a great opportunity to primarily enjoy the fresh sea air, the beautiful coastal landscape and its many bays and beaches.
Rab’s streets and squares are bustling with life in the summer time, when they become the stage of various interesting events, such as outdoor exhibitions and concerts, but also locations where you can hear a capella groups and street musicians performing their songs. Don't miss the annually held unique festival Rapska Fjera in July during which the entire town of Rab goes back to the distant past and visitors can witness many knight games, learn more about traditional crafts and taste local specialties. If you wish to take home some autochthonous island products as a souvenir, then visit Rab in October during the event called Eko Šetimana (Eco Week), when you can not only taste but also buy many traditional local products. While vacationing on the island, do not miss to enjoy the local gastronomic offer such as the well-known shrimps from the Kvarner Bay, fresh fish, homemade olive oil and excellent wines. Round off your meal with the popular Rab cake that you can only taste on Rab and discover why its recipe is the best kept secret of the island. Look for comfortable accommodation in apartments, villas and holiday homes by the sea. Discover Rab and let go of all worries under the pleasant sun of Rab!
