Ugljan, island Ugljan

The settlement of Ugljan is situated in the northern part of the island of Ugljan and represents the largest settlement on the island. Thanks to its unique position, the settlement of Ugljan has the most hours of sun in the entire area. It is characterized by a diverse Mediterranean vegetation with many olive-groves, fig-groves and vineyards. There are 9 little villages around it (Ceprljanda, Lucino selo, Batalaza, Sušica, Gornje Selo, Muline, Guduce, Varoš i Fortostina) and many beautiful coves. A large number of well-preserved remains of ancient architecture can be found in the surroundings of Ugljan, which testify to the very early settlement of this island. Worth visiting is the 15th-century Franciscan monastery of Saint Jerome with its library that is located next to the sandy beach Mostir. The Romanesque colonnade of the monastery is adorned with skillfully crafted capitals that disclose the high cultural development of the island in the Middle Ages. The ruins of a roman villa were discovered in the cove of Batalaža. Not only the history and culture of Ugljan, but also the hospitality of its inhabitants, the stunning landscape, hidden bays and coves with beautiful beaches will turn your holiday here into a unique experience.
