The island of Silba, Zadar archipelago

The Zadar archipelago consists of three hundred islands and islets, of which most are not inhabited, hence making them a dream destination for sailors who are looking for deserted and hidden places with beautiful beaches. On these islands, you will find seagulls to be the only company and the crushing of waves to be the only sound you hear. The archipelago’s northernmost islands are considered the “Gate of Dalmatia” due to their location, with island Silba being the first, but not the largest one in this series of islands. The island of Silba has several beautiful pebble and sandy bays with beaches, of which Šotorišće and Pernastica stand out as the most beautiful ones. The Toreta viewpoint, a 19th century hexagonal tower with an exterior spiral staircase, is the place that oversees the only village on the island. According to legend, it was built by captain Peter Marinić in memory of his sorely missed love. The construction of the parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary began in 1800. The Church houses works of art, i.a. works by Titian, Rudolfino and other Renaissance painters. As everything is within walking distance on Silba, there are no cars on the island. There is a daily ferry line, connecting Zadar and Mali Lošinj with island Silba. Given that the island doesn't have hotels, accommodation is offered in private houses and apartments.
