Baćina, The valley of Neretva

The small village Baćina is located along the slopes of the mountain Biokovo, near Ploče. Numerous remains of the ancient settlement Praetoria as well as an early Christian basilica from the 6th century can be seen in the village and its surroundings. Near the ruins of the Church of St. Andrew there is a necropolis of stelae. Nowadays, Baćina is synonymous for the beautiful Baćina Lakes, which consist of six connected lakes and one separate lake: Crniševo, Oćuša, Podgora, Sladinac, Vrbnik, Sipak and Plitko jezero. They are surrounded by aquatic plants, meadows, poplar trees and small beaches. The lakes lie in cryptodepressions, which means that the bottom of some lakes is below sea level. Baćina Lakes are a popular destination for tourists from Dubrovnik, Ploče, Metković, Drvenik, Podgora and other places in the Podbiokovo area. The landscape of the Neretva delta completely differs from any other part of Croatia, so do not miss to enjoy its uniqueness and exceptional beauty.
