Opuzen, The valley of Neretva

Between the banks and tributaries and amidst the unique landscape of the Neretva river delta lies town Opuzen. It is a place full of history, legend says that the town received its name from the Venetian fortress Fort Opus that was built in Opuzen in 1684. Certainly the most impressive part of Opuzen today and the heart of the town’s life is the local square, which at its end features the beautiful parish Church of St. Stephen that was built at the end of the 19th century. Make sure to visit Opuzen if you are nearby and treat yourself with juicy fruits that hardworking farmers cultivate along the Neretva river valley. Don't miss the famous Boat Marathon from Metković to Ploče, discover Roman Narona and enjoy kiteboarding at the mouth of the Neretva river. Due to its shallow waters and steady mistral and tramontane winds, the Neretva estuary is the perfect spot for kitesurfers and adrenaline lovers.
