Ploče, Neretva Delta

The diversity of the Croatian landscape is perhaps best seen in Ploče, where, in just a small area, mountain cliffs merge with the gentle Neretva valley, calm lakes and the Adriatic coast. This young town, located halfway between Split and Dubrovnik, offers its visitors numerous sports and recreational opportunities, entertaining fisherman festivals and interesting excursions, of which a trip to Baćina Lakes is certainly recommended. These relatively small and irregular lakes are considered to be one of the most interesting phenomena in the karstic landscape and consist of six connected and one separate lake: Oćuša, Crniševo, Podgora, Sladinac, Vrbnik, Šipak and Plitko jezero. These are freshwater lakes, but there are also springs connected to the sea. The lakes are rare examples of cryptodepression, meaning that the bottom of the lake is below sea level. The landscape of the Neretva delta is completely different from any other part of Croatia, so do not miss to enjoy its uniqueness and exceptional beauty.
