The biggest town of Vukovar-Srijem county is Vinkovci. It lies by the river Bosut. The symbol of Vinkovci is the Orion calendar, which belongs to Vučedol culture and is considered to be the oldest European calendar. The dish with the calendar on it is exhibited in the town museum in Vinkovci, which as of recently is offering visitors a permanent Archaelogical and Ethnological collection. The museum is located in the central town square which is dominated by a beautiful park with the baroque church of Saint Eusebius and Saint Polion from the 18th century. In the Small park, find the early Romanesque church of Saint Ilija on Meraja, built at the beginning of the 14th century. In the month of September don't whatever you do miss the Vinkovci Autumns, a magnificent fair of folklore groups from the whole of Croatia. Not far from Vinkovci is the settlement of reconstructed huts from the Stone Age (4.500 – 3.500 BC), the so-called Sopotske kućice, and in the village of Otok, the so-called Otočka suvara, a mill on dry machinery which is turned by horses, which is considered to date back to 1863. Very famous, this is the only such mill in this part of Europe and today is a cultural monument.
