Beli, island Cres

Beli, the picturesque village on a small hill above the west coast of island Cres, proudly defies time amidst the lush century-old forest Tramuntana and bears witness to its ancient and interesting past. Namely, Beli has been writing its history since the time of the Illyrians. It was of special strategic importance during the Roman Empire, and legend has it that Hungarian king Bela IV lived in this area, and that the village was actually named after him. Numerous sacral monuments testify to the culture and history of this place. An ornithological reserve has been established in the village with the aim to prevent the extinction of the endangered griffon vulture. Parts of the island’s steep and inaccessible east coast are the nesting grounds of several dozen pairs of griffon vultures, the very rare and almost extinct species, whose only closest relative lives in South Africa. In the summer months, Beli comes alive with the visit of tourists who find it an ideal place for their vacation. Holiday houses and apartments offer affordable and comfortable accommodation. The beautiful pebble beach in the nearby harbour is bathed in sunshine until late in the evening. Find your ideal accommodation and discover the hidden beauties of the island of Cres.
