Lubenice, island Cres

At the very top of a steep cliff at 378 meters above sea level is the small village Lubenice, one of the oldest on the island of Cres, that offers stunning panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding islands. This charming and harmoniously arranged settlement developed around a medieval fortress and is enclosed by walls on its east side, giving the village a look that almost seems unreal, which is why one travel writer even described it as "the sleepy town of Sleeping Beauty". Lubenice does not only look like a fairy tale, but also has a legend associated with its origin. The fairy-tale story is about a loving queen named Ljubica, who left her kingdom and followed a young man she fell in love with. The young couple settled right on the cliff where the town of Lubenice was later built. There are several beautiful churches that are worth visiting while in Lubenice: the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Church of St. Anton the Hermit and the Church of St. Sunday. Lubenice is particularly attractive during the summer months, when various cultural events and concerts are held there. Accommodation is available in family houses and apartments. The beautiful beach Sv. Ivan, located at the foot of Lubenice, is a place you should not miss visiting. It can be reached in about 45 minutes along a narrow path that leads downhill to the small cove, which attracts visitors with its beauty from above. The beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Cres, so the effort of descending the steep cliff from Lubenice is really worth it.
