Lovran, Opatija Riviera

The steep slopes of mountain Učka are home to the picturesque historic town Lovran. This medieval town was surrounded by walls in the past. The main town square bears the name Sv. Jure or St. George and represents the centre of life in Lovran. Densely built houses with porches, balconies and beautiful stone facades are harmoniously arranged around the square and display a charming image of traditional Mediterranean architecture. Due to its exceptional beauty, natural environment, clean sea and mild climate, Lovran has been recognized as a tourist destination and health resort for centuries, particularly by the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy and the European political elite, who built luxurious villas and palaces with meticulously landscaped gardens and parks along the coastline. Like pearls on a string lie the small towns of the Opatija Riviera - Lovran, Ika, Ičići, Opatija and Volosko, all connected by the 12-kilometer-long promenade called Lungomare that is adorned with Art Nouveau villas, picturesque bays and pebble beaches.

Today, Lovran is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Croatia, where guests can find accommodation to the highest standards in apartments, villas and holiday homes by the sea. Well-kept beaches and sunbathing areas line the Lungomare promenade. The romantic terraces of many bars and restaurants along the coast offer refreshment and gastronomic delicacies such as Kvarner shrimp, homemade cheeses, asparagus specialties, all accompanied by premium Istrian wines. Fans of active holidays can enjoy cycling, various water sports, volleyball and football or discover the beauties of the Učka Nature Park, the National Parks Brijuni, Risnjak and Plitvice.
